Youth BJJOur Kids program focuses on teaching our students jiu jitsu in a safe, rewarding environment in which personal growth and technical improvement are encouraged. Besides learning jiu jitsu, we teach our students discipline, respect for others and the importance of healthy living.

Children will learn self-defense techniques, build confidence and self-discipline. In turn, they will be less likely to become victims of bullies or become a bully themselves.

We treat all our students the same, working with them to realize their full potential and help them to grow both on and off the mat. We work closely with parents. Parents should feel free to discuss with us anything regarding your child. We encourage communication between us, students and their parent/guardian.

Because we understand that not every student learns or advances at the same pace as others, each student is given a set of required techniques and skills that must be developed to advance in rank. Each student will then be tested after a 6 to 8 week period to prove not only knowledge but the application of techniques.

What People Are Saying:

As parents of a very hyper 8-year-old boy, we always tried to keep my son Alexander busy and active in different sports.

We tried soccer for a few years, and he seemed to enjoy it, but we wanted to try something different. We then tried karate, but Alex wasn't into it much. I thought about boxing classes and also jiu-jitsu as another option, and after searching for the right place and failed attempts we came across Barrick Brazilian jiu-jitsu in Goshen.

After meeting Bryan and getting a couple of free try out classes, we knew we found the right place. Alex has been attending class for over a year now, and his level of confidence and grappling skills have improved a lot since we started this journey.

As a parent, I recommend Barrick Brazilian jiu-jitsu to anyone who is looking for a fun and great environment for their kids to learn jiu-jitsu skills with the best team in Michiana.

Our experience with Barrick Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu over the last year and a half has been a great one. My 10-year-old son has been in the kid's program and has flourished. The patient and knowledgeable staff have allowed my son to advance, and excel. My son's first tournament he took 1st with gi, and 3rd without gi. I also recently started training with the adult classes, and again have been extremely pleased with the patience, and tutelage I have received. The training is intense and rewarding. I would recommend Barrick to anyone interested in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu whether they are a child, or an adult; male or female.

What I like about BJJ & Classes at Barrick Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu:

  • Confidence and sense of accomplishment that it gives to kids
  • That what is taught is more than just how to do it, it's the whys and when it's appropriate to use it
  • Kids are taught respect, self-control and other life lessons that make them better kiddos and future adults
  • Sense of family/community - everyone celebrates each other's successes and is always encouraging/building each other up
  • Love the Saturday competition training...more one on one feel, deeper instruction
  • Being able to connect with other parents/people during classes
  • Seeing Rhyan grow and learn and then help other kiddos do the same as he learns

Barrick BJJ is a great place where kids, and adults, can connect with others while learning/developing their jiu-jitsu skills. Kids are taught respect, self-control, and other life lessons while training that will help them develop into successful adults. They not only learn the techniques but also the whys and when it's appropriate to use. At Barrick BJJ there is an immediate sense of family/community. The team (both adults and kids) is constantly cheering on, encouraging, supporting and just being there for each other no matter how new to the classes you are. Being there during class also gives you opportunities to connect with other parents and the kids develop new friendships as well. As my son has grown and learned in his jiu-jitsu journey, I have watched as his confidence levels go up along with his sense of accomplishment. He not only enjoys doing jiu-jitsu but also helping other kids learn and grow as well.
